Target to halve homelessness by 2025

Jun 17, 2016, 15:57 PM by Anglicare Australia

The leaders of the largest homelessness services are pleased that the Shadow Housing and Homelessness Minister, Senator Katy Gallagher, has reflected the call for a target to halve homelessness by 2025 when announcing Labor’s national affordable housing strategy yesterday.

The charities, Anglicare Australia, Mission Australia, the St Vincent de Paul Society, UnitingCare Australia and Wesley Mission, wrote to all political leaders urging for homelessness to be an election priority, and for parties to adopt the target of halving homelessness by 2025. The charities urge all parties to include this target in their election platforms.

With as many as 105,000 people homeless on any given night of the year, it’s time for all political parties to provide the national leadership required to take serious action to reduce homelessness.
