Anglicare Australia is marking Aged Care Employee Day by recognising the extraordinary contribution of the hundreds of thousands of Australians who work every day to support older people.
Executive Director Kasy Chambers said Aged Care Employee Day was an opportunity to thank everyone who makes aged care possible.
“Today is about recognising the people who dedicate their working lives to supporting older Australians with dignity, compassion and respect,” Ms Chambers said.
“Quality aged care is a team effort. Our care workers and nurses deserve enormous recognition for the skilled and compassionate work they do every day – as do the cooks who prepare nutritious meals, cleaners who create safe and welcoming homes, gardeners who maintain beautiful outdoor spaces, drivers who help people stay connected to their communities, office staff who keep services running, allied health professionals, maintenance workers, volunteers and so many others.
“Every person working in aged care makes a valuable contribution to the lives of older people and their families. Their work helps people stay connected, maintain their independence and live with dignity.”
Ms Chambers said the day was also a reminder of the importance of valuing the aged care workforce and ensuring the sector has the support it needs to meet growing demand.
“More and more Australians will come to need aged care over the coming years. We need to celebrate the people who have chosen this rewarding career and make sure aged care remains a sector where people feel valued and supported.
“To everyone working in aged care today, thank you. Your work changes lives, often in ways that go unseen, and our communities are stronger because of your commitment.”
