Anglicare Australia calls for secure work and real reform to employment services

Anglicare Australia has launched an election statement calling for action to deliver secure jobs, stronger workplace rights, and a better employment system.

Anglicare Australia’s Secure Work election statement warns that insecure and casual work is leaving people without stability, with one in five Australians now in casual work.

“Work should give people more than a pay cheque – it should offer stability, purpose, and dignity,” said Anglicare Australia Executive Director Kasy Chambers.

“Instead, more and more people are trapped in insecure jobs that don’t give them enough hours or enough pay. Even people in full-time work are struggling to get by and are turning to us for help.”

The statement also highlights failures in Australia’s employment services system, which is leaving people behind.

“Our employment services system is broken. It’s supposed to help people find work – but too often, it just punishes and demoralises people who are already doing it tough.

“We need to stop wasting billions on red tape and pointless activities, and start investing in services that actually help people into work.”

“Work should be fair and secure. Everyone deserves to contribute to their communities and build a better future for themselves – no matter their background or circumstances,” Ms Chambers said.

Anglicare Australia’s Secure Work election statement calls for:

  • Stronger workplace laws to protect and restore workers’ rights
  • Education and skills development across every stage of life
  • Community-led job creation and tailored employment support
  • A real safety net that includes a fair rate of JobSeeker and Youth Allowance.
