The leaders of Australia's major homelessness service providers (Anglicare Australia, Mission Australia, UnitingCare Australia, the Salvation Army, the St Vincent de Paul Society and Wesley Mission) have written a joint opinion editorial calling on national leadership and political commitment to addressing homelessness. The charities urge all political parties to adopt the target of halving homelessness by 2025.

The leaders of the largest homelessness services are pleased that the Shadow Housing and Homelessness Minister, Senator Katy Gallagher, has reflected the call for a target to halve homelessness by 2025 when announcing Labor’s national affordable housing strategy yesterday.

Anglicare Australia today released its Affordable Housing position statement. “The critical shortage of affordable housing in Australia has a corrosive effect on social and economic wellbeing. Everyone knows the scale of the problem. But in this election, no party has yet proposed a national plan in place to address it” Anglicare Australia’s executive director Kasy Chambers said today.
